It is absolutely amazing how far we have come in just the last 6 months or so.
I will have a post in the morning re-capping all that happened at the re-apportionment meeting this evening, but until then think back at all of the happenings since Oct. or Nov. (There is a nice search engine and archive feature on this site that will allow you to review quite quickly.)
Much more to come in the morning!

Don't worry a lot of people think her family sucks...
I regret ever buying a home in Whispering Woods from builder Charles Raines with Hometown Realty! I've never met him personally but his daughters Monica and Amy were more than enough to handle. They are dishonest people, I recommend anyone looking for a house to look else where if you can.
Unfortunately, I had to enter this post as anonymous since I couldn't figure out how to get set up as a blogger or other, but my name is Rob and I live in Whispeing Woods.
I came across this site and came to this page and thought I'd comment on it.
I’ve had a totally different experience with the Raines family. I never had any prior knowledge of the Raines family before my visit to Whispering Woods.
Monica, Amy, the rest of the Raines family, and their workers have always treated me with respect and did their best to accommodate me. I picked my lot and style home (signed the contract), chose the brick, countertop, shutters, vinyl, and cabinets (signed the options agreement). The home is very well built and it looks great. The neighborhood is very pleasant. I really like not being in the Duplex Road area. Whispering Woods is nestled off of Kedron Road and is in a world of its own. It’s great!!
In order to be objective, there are a few things I would have like to have changed and done differently. After I chose the countertop color, I changed my mind. I called Monica to see if I could change it, but she said she had already placed the order. As I mentioned above, I did sign an agreement that the choices I made were final, and I was ok with that. It’s not her fault that I changed my mind after-the-fact and from what I understand, signing such an agreement is a standard practice for a developer. Otherwise, they would get stuck with things they might not have a use for.
I was disappointed in how our sod looked after we closed on the house in August. It was not cared for like it should have been in the heat of the weeks after installation (July/August==HOT). They did send someone through the neighborhood to aerate and over seed the lawns in the fall. The lawn looks good now. Our air conditioner line that runs in the house is making a weird noise. I’ve had the HVAC guy look at it, and he said there was too much freon in the unit. He evacuated some of it to bring it back to normal. That quieted it up a little, but it is still making the noise, but he said that was normal. I’m going to ask them to look at it again as my warranty ends this August. I am confident that if there is a real problem with it that they will fix it.
Despite the issues I’ve had with my house, the criticism I’ve read on this blog is totally out of character of the Raines family. They are very fair-minded, accommodating people – both professionally and personally. They do make mistakes and they’ll tell you that. I even remember one of them telling me that in the house when it was just a frame. He said we (Raines Const) make mistakes, but we strive to do the job right. They made very few mistakes on my house, but they’ve made good on them.
One of the Raines family members came by my house one day and said, “I noticed your driveway has some large cracks in it. We’re going to pull those sections out and re-pour it. In the winter the water will get in the cracks and freeze causing the concrete to break into pieces.” They did not wait for me to come to them and report it. They noticed it and fixed it.
One blogger said, “They (the Raines) are dishonest people, I recommend anyone looking for a house to look else where if you can.” This “anonymous” statement is contradictory to my experience. Recall from my earlier statement that my warranty ends this August. If this anonymous statement is true, then why did Raines Construction replace my driveway when they could have dishonestly done nothing about it or “patch it” and pass the cost on to me when damage would have been obvious several months after the warranty expired!
Also, the developer builds houses to sell – meaning that they sometimes go ahead and build houses to their own specs, and the buyer buys the house given the existing specs. This is not unlike what happens when a person buys a house already built. So, if Raines Construction is building a house to their specs and a buyer goes to make a contract on it, then the buyer is agreeing to buy the house given the “predetermined” specs. (This is much like my countertop experience. I agreed upon a particular countertop for my house but changed my mind after I signed the contract and after the order for the countertop had been sent.) If the buyer wanted different color brick after it had been predetermined and preordered, then it’s too late. Yes, it probably would have been possible to have changed the color of the brick, but this does not make someone dishonest nor does it make them into a person who takes advantage of another.
If you're looking for a great friendly place to live that offers value for dollar invested (my property has already apperciated 10K!!), then come check it out and draw your own conclusions.
EVERYONE'S property has appreciated $10K or more. You sound like a plant from the company.
22:26,
I think you are right. I have a lot of dealings with the Raines Family also and just let me tell you that they will always come out on top. Next time you go into Columbia look at all the equipment just setting on the left at the old honey farm. Is there really that much money in building houses. I work for the Jones Company and they said it way to expensive to own your own equipment. It was either build a good quality house or own your own equipment. I am not much on spec homes but jones does a good job.
"EVERYONE'S property has appreciated $10K or more. You sound like a plant from the company."
So, what if I was a plant, which I'm not, but if I was, then you must be a journalist from the Washington Times. With that type of twising of information on my comment about appreciation of my property and universally applying it to everyone, then you could possibly land job with the Times if you weren't.
Also, it sounds like you're leaning on the logical fallacies - Ad Hominem, Appeal to Ridicule, etc. - to make your arguement. Transalted: you don't have a vaild argument. It also sounds like you could use a course in formal logic to learn when to use the universal quantifier - everyone.
As for the equipment comment, you could use a little lesson in logic yourself. It does not necessarily follow that just because someone has a lot more material goods than you, me, or someone else that it was gotten by ill gotten gain as it appears that you are implying. You could also learn when to use universal quantifiers yourself (they will always come out on top).
My brother never went to college, has always sought to be an upright citizen and has become independently wealthy and continues to be a man of character and integrity. He's also worked his butt off and has accumulated all types of equipment for his logging business (not in TN).
What's weird is that people make the same illogical accusations about my brother as they or you make about the Raines. When someone prospers, especially by doing good, people become jealous of them.
They have to put someone down in order to make themselves look better. It's like racism. Some white people put down black people because they've got to feel like they're better than someone else (and vice versa). They can't obviously put down white people or they would be putting themselves down, but they can certainly put down another white person who is either richer (goodie-goodie) or poorer (white trash) than they are.
I can't wait to see how the "Washington Times" is going to report on this one!!!
Okay english teacher. How about this- they still are not up standing ppl in the community. I do not care what you say. They fit right in with Donnie Cameron(x-con) Pete Crutcher (buys land from old people tells them it is not worth anything then tries to sell it and make a 200% profit). How bout that.
You haven't said anything but empty emotive based rhetoric.
The burned of proof is upon you. If you bring forth the allegation, then you've got to prove it if you want to be seen as credible blogger. I don't have to prove myself because I'm not the one bring character accusations.
If it's true, then prove your alegations. Step up to the plate! Substantiate your case with cold, hard facts (names, amount people were told their propery was worth, and how much they sold it for).
If you can't, then all you have is hearsay and your voice has no credibility "on this issue."
By the way, one blogger said, "Don't worry a lot of people think her family sucks..." It may have been you, I don't know, but if a lot of people think that about someone else, then is it "necessarily" true? If you say no, then neither is it "necessarily" true of them (Raines).
I was wandering can you learn me good english???? Poor country folk like me don't understand em big words you using. Simmer down
It's amazing that people can't take it when they are called into accountability for words they say and even more so when they can substantiate what they say.

The following quote is taken from a website which expresses my concern about blogs in general, "There's a lot of debate on the net. Unfortunately, much of it is of very low quality. The aim of this document is to explain the basics of logical reasoning, and hopefully improve the overall quality of debate."
The following link explains the basics of making a good argument.

POINT TO PONDER...
Just curious Anonymous (Rob), why waste your time, energy, and "big" words to try and convince people to think differently. I can appreciate your desire to share your positive experience but your continued efforts seem to be a longing for drama just as you’ve accused the others on this blog. I can understand and appreciate your perspective but I think your real goal is to shake up the ant farm so to speak. You seem to derive pleasure from engaging their prejudices and gossip. Are you really any different?

"Anon Jan3, 08," The guy (rob) posted that comment nearly 8 months ago. Why are YOU wasting YOUR breath? Better yet, why am I?! Come back Gorilla! We're like animals out here without a conch shell!
thats because evryone is on dospringhill.com
sorry to say but this site is dead.
I think you mean www.shtn.net ;-)
I just had to jump in as well on this... I purchased a home in Whispering Woods over a year ago & it was the worst decision I have ever made. I also had a run in with Monica & Amy. Monica seems really nice up front & once you sign that contact she turns into a completely different person. Also, whatever they tell you your closing date is - expect to add 2-3 months to that. Not to mention the hassle of getting off of work to go to closing and oppps they aren't finished with the house! Luckily, I was able to sell my house rather quickly & get out of there.
Well, I might as well get in on the action here even though it does seem to be over. Though people will tend to have different experiences with the Raines family, I think how you're treated all depends on your efforts to get what YOU want in & for YOUR home. My wife and I's first home was in the Whisphering Woods development and our impression of Monica's efforts ranks very poorly. If it wasn't in her interest than the problem didn't matter. Not until they (Raines Const) could be found at fault would she make "convenient offers" to help out. Now I know these homes are of the cookie cutter type, but we (wife & I) were not asking much at all. Things like: replace damaged fixtures, repaint bathrooms because the walls began to mildew from the half-a$$ installation of the bath fan, etc. She (Monica) made big promises but never delivered. Let's not even get started on the lawn. Ask anyone who knows about lawn care and they will tell you first thing that spreading a few seeds around already dead sod & rocks (which is all our yard was), that you're not going to see any improvements without starting over. Of course, that would cost Raines money so no dice. In short, I say again. If YOU needed something I doubt you got it from Monica. However, if she needed something to benefit herself consider it done. Houses in that neighborhood are well built for the price range, but the customer service and appreciation for your purchase were not there at all. I've never met a contractor who refused to even meet with his customer to resolve an issue? To this day I couldn't tell you who Charlie is, never saw him and he refused to meet with us. We gave up asking them (Raines Const/Monica) for help after a few months and decided to make our own home repairs instead. My advice would be to shop around for another company. When it's all in the family, odds are stacked against you to begin with.
This family does suck!!! They continue to screw people left and right, can't someone do anything about this?
Wow...I've worked with Raines Construction for years and I hate to hear people have had a bad experience. But, out of all the people buying new homes, not everyone is going to have a good experience...regardless of who the builder is. I've been in the construction industry long enough to know that. However, I know the Mr. Charlie and his family very well and I think they are good people. I think they try very hard to build nice homes for people. Maybe sometimes mistakes are made, but everyone makes mistakes. I have not purchased a Raines home and can't give an opinion from a home-buyer's perspective, but I can give my opinion from a sub-contractor's perspective. My family has worked for them for many years and they have always been good to us. We do the best job we can do for them and they expect no less from us. I do know that they have had to change various sub-contractors over the years (flooring companies, drywall, plumbers, etc) because sometimes its hard to find someone who is willing to do a fantastic job every time. So, some of the issues some of you have had in the past could be a result of sub-contractors not doing the best job they could do, and I can assure you that those sub-contractors no longer work for the company. I've seen the Raines family make every effort to correct situations that arise with their homes. They do care and they want their customers to be satisfied. Some of you who have previously posted may not agree with me, but that is fine. That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I just wanted to also share mine.
Glad to see the activity on this has picked up and is one of the first sites up on Google for "Charles Raines Construction". Here is the latest...there is a house in Quail Hollow subdivision in Dickson, TN (I know, where's the advertising and cool website on that development?) with signs outside that contain racial slurs and profanity. Beside the fact that the yard in no way conforms to the useless covenants (in that they are not backed or enforced by the developer), the developer when alerted of this did...yeah, me too...still waiting on something to be done. Maybe next year...
That development is a very nice development I actually drove through there recently. It is a small development, but has the potential to be very nice. I'm pretty sure I saw the yard you are referring to. It has a nice scare crow in it...lol, I actually spoke to some of the people outside working in their yards. They all seem to be pretty upset with the Raines family. There are some major problems there that the Raines' people aren't fixing. Looks like the vote goes to the homeowners that hate the Raines family, looks like they are screwing people everywhere.
Recently bought a home in Honey Farms, in Jan. Come to find out that there are major drainage issues with the lawn. HVAC unit gets about 2 inches of water in it when rains and the back yard looks like a river running through it. So 6 weeks after we let Monica know of the issue, she wanted to wait till it rained again so they can see what it does. Not the solution we expected. so will go forth with a large sign in our yard with a pic of our HVAC under water so anyone thinking about buying here will have a chance to speak to us before they buy for them. sad that you have to fight to get something corrected that you paid for in good faith.
Except the sister who is a nurse.
