Well, the noon deadline to qualify as a candidate for Alderman in the April 12th City of Spring Hill Election has passed. It appears that we have a broad pool of candidates and for the first time in recent history, no un-opposed candidates. It will be interesting to see who distinguishes themselves over the next coming months.

Winner predictions:
Ward 1: Dinwiddie. He had some really good ideas while running for mayor, but lacked the experience of running a campaign (hint: get a couple of signs this time). Brandon has a lot on his plate and seems to have lost his passion for it while Ron is at best ludicrous and at worst downright scary.
Ward 2: Mitchell. He's beaten Gabriel before. And the demographics have changed so that Gabriel's former support base is no longer as strong or influential as it once was when he was Alderman. Mitchell has also made some recent gains in popularity.
Ward 3: Cantrell. While any of the other candidates would be better for the city, there are too many of them. Cantrell already has a support base she can rely on and has campaigning experience. The others will simply weaken each other by splitting the vote. If they truly cared about it, at least two of them would back out and run again next time.
Ward 4: Hull. Hands down. Pickard was never elected to her position in the first place and hasn't done much with it since it was given to her.
Just my two cents.
Anonymous,
Thank you for your predictions. I would appreciate it if you would elaborate on your opinion of me further as to why you feel I am ludicrous at best and at worst downright scary.
Is it that I present a threat to the "good ole boy" network that is currently dominating the city?
Could it be that you have some type of involvement in the development of this city and fear that your profitability is threatened by my desire to slow the rate of development in this city?
Do you truly believe that rapid development in the absence of supporting infrastructure is in the best interests of the city?
Do you think the developers operating in this city are going to care what happens to Spring Hill when they have made their last dollar here, the city is built out, and we are left with the results?
Are you scared to look at the possibility that I might just be right? Christopher Columbus was considered ludicrous at best and downright scary at worst when he tried to convince people that the earth was round, in stark contrast to their belief that the world was flat. Many in Spring Hill may not believe me when I say that rapid development will be the downfall of Spring Hill if allowed to continue unchecked, maybe because they have never seen the results of rapid development, or they choose to believe that it can't happen here, but in the end I hate to say that I will be proven right one day if we continue on our current race to build out Spring Hill.
I sincerely hope that you will respond in detail, and back up your opinions with as many facts as possible to support your case, so that I may gain an understanding of where you are coming from and how you feel Spring Hill should be run into the future.
Thank you in advance for your response.
Now you just sound a bit psycho with delusions of grandeur. Your facade of being some "great statesman" seems to be cracking.
Ron,
Can you expand upon who you think the "good ole boy" network that is currently dominating the city is in your opinion?
See the post by that title and read the court transcripts. It is all there in black and white.

With all due respect, if I had delusions of grandeur I would be running for President of the United States and if I were psycho, I would be running for Imperial Ruler of the World, not Ward 1 Alderman of Spring Hill, Tennessee. This position is not one of extremely great power, and I have no intention of using it as a stepping stone into more powerful political positions. I am not a "great statesman" so any facade that you think you see towards that title was merely a mirage. What I am is a person like many in this city that moved here to get away from the traffic, crime and over crowding of the big city in an effort to have a better life and nice place to raise a family, and who is beginning to see all of those negative things beginning to show their faces here and wants to prevent this great city from becoming what I tried to move away from. I am also a person that has worked on the front lines of government, serving the public in the field, and have seen how the good and bad decisions of a few elected officials can help and harm a city. My pure motivation for running for Alderman is to preserve the lifestyle that I thought I was moving to and prevent feelings of buyer's remorse five years down the road when Spring Hill is just like Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Nashville, Atlanta or any other big, traffic filled, over populated city. As always, your comments are appreciated as it allows me to dispell myths about me and my positions in regards to how I feel this city should proceed into the future.
Okay there Christopher Columbus, calm down. This was just someone's opinion. Good Lord. Is this how you're going to act if you get elected?
Here's a couple of quotes:
"I spent just over six years employed as a Code Enforcement Officer and Code Enforcement Supervisor with the City of Lauderhill, FL."
vs.
"I am also a person that has worked on the front lines of government, serving the public in the field, and have seen how the good and bad decisions of a few elected officials can help and harm a city."
I like the way you spiced it up the second time around and made it more over-dramatic like a really good action flick. Narcissism is generally not a desirable trait for an alderman.
You sure do say "I" a lot for someone who's trying to downplay his desire for power. Perhaps when you realize that it's a "we" that gets things done (and you are only one tiny little part of the "we") instead of an "I", you'll start to make headway. Or maybe you're just looking for someone to appreciate you for your heroic, death-defying efforts down there in Florida. I bet they're down there right now saying "I sure do wish Ron hadn't left us".
You again: "...but in the end I hate to say that I will be proven right one day if we continue on our current race to build out Spring Hill." Sheesh. What a joke.
Megalomania (from the Greek word μεγαλομανία) is a psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence (collectively, your posts reflect two out of three so far) - often generally termed as delusions of grandeur. It includes an obsession with grandiose or extravagant things or actions. It is sometimes symptomatic of manic or paranoid disorders.
Better go peek through the window shades. Someone might be watching you...
Last time I checked - we will be electing an "I" not a "we".
I see no problem with Ron saying "I" - he can only speak for himself, and himself alone. Besides, the lynch mob would have a fit if they even thought he was presuming to speak for "we".
I don't know Ron - and really haven't formed an opinion about him yet. But I tell you what - I don't put much weight behind the words of all of you "anonymous" posters throwing stones from the shadows of anonymity... and at least he gets credit for stepping up for this city and being quite frank about his views and intentions.
DRM,
Thank you for your comment.
Anonymous,
Before the Christopher Columbus comment goes any further, it was an attempt at comedy based on a previous comment made to me referring me to study Ponce de Leon. I should have known that it would be taken the wrong way by someone.
Anonymous, thanks for the vote of confidence. It also sounds like you are looking for a job as campaign manager? :-)
While my platform hasn't been set in stone yet, I suspect it will closely resemble the one I had in the last election since most of the ideas are still important today. Perhaps the one I am most proud of is the hospital and I applaud the mayor and board for picking up that idea and running with it.
What I would really like is for those voters who are truly concerned about the future of the city to email me and give me their opinions about what direction the city should take. Along with those opinions, feel free to explain what your solutions would be if you have any. As an Alderman, I will have my ideas on how to solve problems, but someone else may have better ideas and those ideas can only be found by listening and being willing to change. I plan on running my campaign in the same manner as I would holding the position - by listening to people, sharing ideas and adopting the best possible solutions.
Those of you who supported me in the last campaign for mayor, I thank you. Please contact me if you would like to assist me in this campaign.
My email address is mdinwiddie@charter.net. I look forward to hearing from you.
Michael Dinwiddie
I find it childish that people cannot post under their real names. Someone is always going to find something to dissect about something someone else says, especially if they can hide behind an anonymous name on the Internet. Get a life! I think Ron has some good ideas and views. Someone needs to start controlling the growth in our city and build the infrastructure so that the "quality of life" remains excellent for the current residence.
I read in the news papers every week about another new mixed use development but I have not seen any progress reports on the community center (which will probably be too small for the population by the time it’s complete anyway) or updates on road and traffic improvements. Just goes to show where the focus is.
