Now hear this! Now hear this!

For those of you interested in getting involved, you could not have stumbled upon this site at a better time. For the last several months, our group of concerned citizens have been pressing Senator Bryson and Representative Casada to bring legislation before the State to require Spring Hill to re-apportion our city government. That time has now come, and the first shots will be fired at the meeting on Feb. 21. Senator Bryson and Rep. Casada are coming to the next meeting to inform the BOMA that legislation will be presented if the city does not act first. I hear our aldermen constantly say...."my vote is not my opinion, but the opinion of the citizens of Spring Hill"....now is the chance for our city aldermen to put their money where their mouth is!

Not only are we planning to pack the house on Feb. 21, but look for a petition drive to begin in the coming weeks to back up our opinion. We NEED all of you to show up! Parking will be limited, so carpool. Space will be limited, so be willing to stand. But I cannot stress to you all enough how important it is that we show up, bring a neighbor, and force this board to begin using some common sense.

I would venture a guess that over 90% of this city is in favor of re-apportionment. For those alderman that happen to be reading this...YOUR VOTE IS NOT YOUR OPINION, BUT THAT OF THE CITIZENS OF SPRING HILL!!! The opinion of the citizens is to put in place a system that allows our elected officials to truly be accountable and flexible to the changing population numbers in all wards.

Read this and pass this on to someone new every day. There will be a huge buildup in both information and people in the coming weeks so stay informed and involved.

If this is indeed true, I commend Bryson and Casada for stepping to the plate, with their own necks on the line, to represent the citizens in their district.

They need the support of every one of us by coming to the February 21st city council meeting in numbers.

Could there be anything more laughable than them coming to a city council meeting to represent the citizens, only to have 10 or 20 citizens show up to support them?

Marked my calendar and planning to be there for my first meeting.

SOON, very soon the Maury County side of Spring Hill will have more people in it then the Williamson County side. The Maury side has more than twelve huge subdivisions being built. The Maury County side of Spring Hill will have most of the apartments and high density town houses. Just on Port Royal alone, right across the street from each other are close to a thousand apartments and townhomes going up RIGHT NOW. Read the Tennessean, there will be at least 11,000 new people on Port Royal Road alone added to Spring Hill, the vast majority in Maury County. SO when Glen Casada and Jim Bryson get here they need to be aware of this before they threaten Spring Hill. ADD to the Maury side almost a thousand acres of dense development out Beechcroft Rd. all in Maury County and then there is Kedron RD. and much more. Hey Gorilla, take some brain food and learn more about your city!

Frankly I could care less about Maury v. Williamson. Most of those developments that you speak of are in Ward #2, and a few in Ward #1. That means that in the near future Ward 2 will have OVER 85% of the population, with Ward 1 having most of the rest. Basically...it only makes the problem worse than it is today.

Think about this for a second, then respond after you have taken 5 deep breaths.

Should all four wards have 25% of the aldermen each when 2 of those wards provide over 90% of the total population?

Should all four wards have 25% of the aldermen when 1 ward have well over 80% of the population?

Why in the world would a ward that represents approx 2% of the population need 25% representation?

If you can explain all of this, please try. And please show up to lobby the BOMA of your opinion.

You call the gorilla out on checking facts???

Why don't you check a few of yours?

Wow! I think that we are all after the same thing here, but only a few of us know that. Again, WOW!

Devil''s Advocate of The Hill touched on something that can't be ignored. There is a clear division between the Maury County and Williamson County Aldermen. Could that be a comparable representation of the Williamson County and Maury County citizens? I agree that the ward issue should be considered separately, but am I the only one that sees a clear difference of how this city should be run between the Williamson County and Maury County aldermen?

Anonymous @ 20:04, you are right about one point, the ward reapportionment issue shouldn't be about Williamson County versus Maury County. Take another look at the Ward map:

Map of Spring Hill Wards

See that section of Port Royal Rd where all of the apartments, condos and town homes are going in?

That's Ward 2.

That is what the reapportionment issue is all about.

Alderman in Spring Hill represent all of the people of Spring Hill, not just the ward that they reside in.

I wish that you would stop misinforming people.

I believe that all of the aldermen in this city are genuine in their desire to do good for this city. I also believe that many are out of touch with the majority of the citizens. I have only been to 3 or 4 meetings and I can see this as clear as day.

If you truly believe that they are accountable and acting on behalf of all the citizens, i would say that you have lost your mind.

I respect that everyone has an opinion, but frankly I think yours in incredibly misinformed. How can anyone in this city be against making our government more able to adjust and adapt to future population changes. If it is truly about accountability, how is this not a win win situation?

And by the way, my name is Michael Glass. Having said that, does it make my opinion more reliable? Facts are facts, and it seems to me that this site presents quite a few, anonymous or not.

Anonymous @ 14:39,

I don’t doubt that every alderman believe that they are representing the needs of all of the citizens. However, by requiring a set number of aldermen per ward (the residency requirement), the current system is specifically limiting the representation of aldermen from the larger wards.

In my opinion, the fair and reasonable thing to do is to reapportion the four wards (regardless of county) so that all citizens of Spring Hill are fairly and equitably represented. I would add that it would not be a bad idea if the lines were drawn so as to include both sides of the line in each of the four newly drawn wards. This will unify our city and insure fair and equitable representation for all. At the rate of growth we are experiencing, we may have to reapportion at midterm (two years after elections) so that two years later (after reapportionment) when those seats come up, balance will be preserved. We have lived in Spring Hill for nine years and love our city. Reapportionment is an idea whose time has come and is long overdue. My name is Tim Richards and my family resides in Wyngate Estates. For proponents on either side of this issue, let's take the high road and keep the dialogue respectful. I too would encourage all interested parties to attend the next meeting of the BOMA and respectfully make your views heard.

Anybody read the article in The Advertiser of Spring Hill today?

It looks like Bryson and Casada are definitely coming.

Part of me is a little mad that they are coming down here to tell the city what to do.

The other part of me is glad that they have said that they are leaving it up to the BOMA to act on their own.

I'm just glad that the BOMA will now have a chance to do something else, other than "We Vote To Do Nothing" as the board voted to do a year or two ago.

I hope that the board responds in a manner that represents what "the citizens want".

Note to BOMA: what "the citizens want", is not always what a small group who knows how to get to you want.
