Williamson County Commission...

Okay, back from vacation and ready to put the gloves back on. Those of you with signs, get ready to place them back in your yard. If you find more interest in your neighbors, let us know and we will get them a sign as well.

In a day or two, we will be switching the www.UniteSpringHill.com website over to a new topic...the proposed Spring Hill Hospital.

Speaking of hospital, if you have a few minutes (or even if you don't) it is time to make a trip to the Williamson County Commission meeting next Monday evening. The commission is attempting to pass a resolution to support Williamson Medical Center in their opposition to a hospital in Spring Hill. I think that it is time that elected officials begin hearing that it is time to support their constituents instead of opposing them.

Here is a copy of the resolution:

I would invite all of you (even those of you that despise this website) to get involved and help make OUR city a better place. Let's get this thing rolling.

Those of you that really believe in this issue, please send me an email and we will help you become involved in an effective and meaningful way!

Page 2 of the resolution reads:

".......is not in the best interests of the citizens of Spring Hill....."

Who do they think they are? I know what is in the best interest of me and my family and I don't need elected officials trying to keep a monopoly on healthcare. Commissioners, let the State Agency make a determination based on facts and mind your own business. It's about the bottom line of WMC plain and simple; quit disguising it as anything else. The CON's referenced didn't include the tremendous growth Spring Hill is experiencing. Now, when they didn't want to acknowledge Spring Hill in the past, do they want to acknowledge Spring Hill with a negative resolution opposing our "Quality of Life"? What are the true motives of these elected officials, obviously not the citizens of Spring Hill?

Get out and support the Spring Hill Hospital. Call, write, and attend the upcoming Williamson County Commission meeting.

Nolensville Weighs in on Hospital Debate (Franklin and Williamson County, too?)

"It's an unusual resolution," said Robert Notestine, town attorney. "It doesn't have a lot to do with Nolensville — a medical facility in Spring Hill... From a legal standpoint, it appears to me not to directly impact the town of Nolensville."

(WMC, COO Roger) Klein said Williamson Medical Center is in the midst of its own $80 million expansion, and Spring Hill patients are a vital part of that expansion.

"The way we plan to pay for that expansion is growth in the communities around us, and certainly Spring Hill is one of those communities," he said. "We took that growth into account. All we're asking is we're wanting the opportunity to get our facility on line. We're adding 59 new beds. That's more beds than they're (HCA) proposing."

Two reasons to build Spring Hill hospital: Growth, community

LETTER TO THE EDITOR-Columbia Daily Herald

It has been several weeks since Spring Hill announced intentions to bring a hospital to our city.

There have been many news stories and letters, yet many neglect simple facts about our city, growth, economics, community, and the value of nearby hospital care.

There are few communities in America growing as rapidly as Spring Hill. Some opponents compare Spring Hill with Mt. Pleasant, Hampshire, Culleoka, and Santa Fe and wonder what would happen if they asked for hospitals, too. While these are fine towns and reflect some growth, the population of these communities is not even close to Spring Hill.

Spring Hill is no longer the small rural community it was just a few years ago. Cities of our size (expected growth is to 45,000 by 2010, far larger than Columbia) require full services for its citizens. That means not only restaurants and shopping centers, dentists and doctors, but hospitals, too!

As Spring Hill continues to carry an increasing load of the tax burden for Maury County, including county property and sales taxes, it is amazing to me that any Maury citizen would oppose a hospital that brings improved tax revenues and jobs to our area.

Yet while the economic benefits a new hospital brings will be great for Spring Hill and Maury County, hospital also means community. Presently we have to go 15 miles north or south to get to a hospital. These hospitals are quality institutions, but they are not really a part of our community. Most early hospitals in America were built by churches, because churches recognized that communities needed not just nearby spiritual care but nearby medical care. Hospitals build community by allowing citizens to be close to home and family in difficult times. And with 21 percent (an astounding figure) of Spring Hill age 10 and under, we want families to be close to the many children and grandchildren we have — not 15 miles away!

Maury and Williamson citizens have an opportunity to get a picture of what our new Spring Hill hospital will be like. On Thursday, June 8, buses will leave from Spring Hill City Hall at 10 a.m. for a visit to StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna. The trip is free, lunch is provided, and the buses will return by 2:30. To reserve a place, call (615) 342-1919 or (800) 242-5662. Deadline for reservations is Monday, June 5.

Yet another resolution AGAINST the proposed hospital. Seems like a glimpse of the future.

Commissioners, let the State Agency make a determination based on facts and mind your own business.

This could be said for many of the proponents of this hospital as well. I would start making plans to eat crow after the hearing if I were you. How realistic is it to think that they are going to approve a hospital when two county commissions oppose it, there is little or no use of the current EMS system in Spring Hill, and the strongest arguments for it come from citizens who just think they deserve a hospital? Plus EVERY MAJOR HOSPITAL in the area OPPOSES it, not just WMC or MRH.
