New School Site?

A week or so ago (overshadowed by the hospital decision) Maury County announced a possible new middle school location on Beechcroft and Cleburne Rd. Now why in the world would Maury County be looking to place a new school on the opposite side of the city away from all of the future growth and development? Not only that, but why would the county be looking at placing a school next to a railroad track (on a fairly dangerous road with no shoulder) when there is another much more accessible option that would include a possible YMCA, in the middle of all the expected growth, on the southeast side of the city?

Let's look at a few items driving growth right now in Spring Hill:
1.) New Spring Hill Hospital
2.) Development on Port Royal Rd, Saturn Parkway, and along I-65
3.) Big Box stores and commercial development along 31 down to Saturn Parkway and east along Saturn Parkway.
4.) Commercial and Residential development along Duplex Rd.

It does not take a lot of high level intellect to see where the future growth is going to explode the fastest (thus creating the most need and long term usability for a school). So can someone tell us why we are looking to extend sewer etc. across a railroad track for a school only to add thousands of drivers to an already unsafe road. And in those cars, on an unsafe road, we are going to place all of our middle school aged children. This doesn't make much sense at all to me.

I think our newly elected Maury County Commissioners and School Board Member (Evans, Farmer, and Dudley) need to get involved from day 1 to secure the best available site for this middle school.

Hey Gorilla

If they want to know where to put schools. They need to look at where Spring Hill is planning to put it's next fire stations. That is usualy a good indicator of projected growth. My understanding is southeast, not west.

be safe all

That is just about the worst spot in this city to place a middle school!!!! I sure hope that Maury County does not do that to this city.

I do not believe that this location is that bad. I don't believe that a school has to be smack dab in the middle of a busy area. That isn't neccesariy the be st location. This is a nice area that is starting to be developed. The roads will improve, as they always do when development comes in. If the land is donated, i don'tknow if it was, but that is adventagous to the tax payers. The school board does the best they can with limited funds for new schools. Give them a break. Support them, go to their work sessions, provide input, this isn't another HOSPITAL issue, to loose sleep over.

There is one reason they want to put this school out there.

Free land.

And of course the developer of that land will get something in return and they should, if that is where it will go.

But what will the school board do when some mother is racing to get her child to school on time and gets hit by a train.

Everyone knows that the RR could care less about backing up traffic.

What happens when half the school is late because of train blockage of the only crossing.

There is going to be a great deal of growth out this way, but there must be something done about the RR crossing.

The only other way to get to this site from the East, if there is a RR back up, is to go all the way to Neapolis, then go West, then North a long way out of the way.

What about the free land being offered off Port Royal Road and Kedron?

The free land off Kedron and Port Royal would be a much better site.

There are not only huge numbers of students coming from all the new Maury County sub-divisions off Kedron and Port Royal, and we are talking several thousand homes, but there are hundreds and hundreds, probably thousands out in Oak Lake, off of Greens Mill Road and all out in that area that would use this school, not to mention, further out Kedron towards Hi.431.

Don't jump the gun.

Questions which should be asked.

Has the State been asked to improve the roads in this area? (Yes). Can the RR issues be addressed? (Yes). Is this site better to build on than the other. (yes). This means more school for the same money. Were there issues with the other site? (yes). For one TVA power lines running across the school site. Is this the only school which will be needed in Spring Hill? (No). Is this site a done deal? (No). Are there major developments planned for this area? (Yes). Are there other questions which need to asked? (Yes) and they will be.

Which Spring Hill Alderman (developer/builder) & family owns lots of land in the Beechcroft/Cleburne Rd. area?

I have removed your post because we cannot support un-substantiated comments on this site. I do find it interesting enough to look into, so I should be able to get the the truth pretty quickly.

Why is it always about persecution on this site?
