A few events to know about!

FYI...I just received an email from one of the candidates about some upcoming events. For those that are interested in listening or attending, here you go.

Hello Candidates,

WAKM radio(Spotlight on Spring Hill radio talk show) would like to invite you to be our guest on two radio shows which will be held March 5th(Monday) and March 19th(Monday). The show on March 5th will include candidates from Wards #1 and #2 and the show on March 19th will include candidates from Wards #3 and #4. The radio show is held live (broadcast on 950 AM) in the lobby of First Farmers and Merchants Bank (corner of Hwy. 31 and Kedron Parkway) We ask that candidates arrive for each show around 7:50 AM and the show is over at 9 AM. Free breakfast goodies will also be served....so come hungry. The show will basically consist of each candidate introducing themselves for five minutes and possibly, depending on time, we may have each candidate draw a question out of a hat and answer it regarding issues taking place in Spring Hill. Hope that all of you can attend!!!

The Maury County Republican Party also wants to invite all Spring Hill candidates to their monthly luncheon Wednesday (March 7th) at noon at the Spring Hill Best Western Hotel meeting room. Candidates will receive a free lunch and are asked to briefly introduce themselves (2-3 minutes). Additional guests you bring will cost $10.00 each. Wally Beasley of the Maury County Republican Party asks that you RSVP him at 931-388-5505 or send me a reply email stating if you can come and if you are bringing a guest.

Also, last but not least, The Greater Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce will be conducting a "meet the candidates" forum on March 20th Tuesday (5:30 PM to 7 PM). The forum will be held at the Spring Hill Best Western Hotel Meeting Room(Kedron Parkway) with light refreshments served. The forum will consist of candidates introducing themselves (approx.3 to 5 minutes each) and give candidates a chance to mingle with the public afterwards.

Regards,

Cindy Williams

We are going to formally announce this on the Spotlight on Spring Hill radio show this coming Monday, but for the members of this blog, here is an advance notice.

I would like to announce that I am hosting a benefit concert for the Tennessee Children's Home on Saturday, March 10th from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.

The Children's Home provides a valuable service to children who have been neglected. I have learned that they are trying to start a school to teach the children some work skills (ie. carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, electrical, etc) and they need some equipment for that. The van they are using is also in bad shape and they need a new one of those as well. So, this is a chance for us to help our community and make a difference to some kids who need it.

Tickets are going to be $10 and can be bought in advance either through me or through the Children's Home. There will only be 200 tickets so I expect this to sell out fairly quickly once we announce who will be playing. The Children's Home will be offering bottled water, sodas and concession items for a small fee. Donations will also be accepted. Weather permitting, we plan to have a hot air balloon that you can take rides in.

All (100%) of the money collected in any form will be going to the Children's Home.

Please check your calendars and do what you can to support this cause.

Thank you
Mike Dinwiddie

Watch out candidates! This smells of an ambush by Cindy Williams. She along with her developer cronies (friends/business partners) is supporting certain "puppet" candidates.

Anonymous said...

How can it be an ambush? The questions are drawn from a hat. You sound bitter.

Anonymous said...

We all know what one of the questions will be.

'How long have you lived in Spring Hill?'

Anonymous said...

And any of the candidates could draw it...

Just a quick note about the benefit for the Children's Home on the 10th.

Tom Wurth (www.tomwurth.com), a Spring Hill resident and Sutton Parks of Lot 18 (www.lot18.com) will be two of the performing artists. Tom Wurth is receiving national attention with his latest single "Bread on the Table". Lot 18 plays regularly at the Pub in Spring Hill. More artists to be named shortly.

Only 200 tickets will be sold. After one hour, 170 are left. This will be a sold out event.

All of the money generated goes to the Children's Home to help purchase equipment for their school.

Contact Mike Dinwiddie at 268-9009 (mdinwiddie@charter.net) or the Children's Home for further details or to purchase tickets.

if we are unable to attend (or it is sold out), can we just drop off a donation?

Anonymous said...

Absolutely. You can give it to me at the Republican luncheon (or I can meet you somewhere) and I'll give you a receipt for it. Or you can go to the Children's Home and tell the receptionist what the donation is for and they can hold it.

Artists include:
Tom wurth (www.tomwurth.com) - a Spring Hill resident with a single being played across the nation

Sutton Parks (www.lot18.com) - plays at Embers and the Pub on the weekends.

Larry McCoy - formerly an RCA recording artist who now plays for Ray Stevens

Chip Young - A guitar legend who played with Elvis Presley, George Straight, Gordon Lightfoot, Waylan Jennings and Jerry Lee Lewis to name a few.

Surprise guests - there are a few who are still on the fence due to potential scheduling conflicts. I can't name them until I get a firm commitment.

This is going to be a good way to spend an afternoon in Spring Hill and it's something we can do to support an area of our community that, for the most part, most of us don't even think about.

Again, none of this money is going towards my campaign or even to any expenses for that matter. Every penny is going to the Children's Home.

Thanks for your help.
Mike

I have been asked by other candidates if they can attend. Since it is the Children's Home that benefits from the money, the answer is yes. However, anyone coming with the idea of campaigning (even something as simple as handing out a business card) will be escorted out immediately. Sorry to take such a hardline stance on this, but this event is for the children and I don't want to provide any distractions from that purpose. Besides, coming to someone else's benefit with the idea of promoting yourself would probably backfire anyway.

I do have about 40 tickets left. If you know of anyone interested please have them call me. If this goes off fairly well, then there will be a bigger one later this year.

Thanks
mike

One of our special guests has just confirmed. I'm happy to announce the Mr. John Ford Coley (http://johnfordcoley.com/) will be playing. John is a double platinum and gold record artist with hits like "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight", "We'll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again", "Nights Are Forever Without You" and "Love Is The Answer".

I don't know if the Children's Home has sold out their ticket supply yet, but I have about 30 left. When they're gone, they're gone. We won't be letting anyone in at the door due to fire codes.

Another of our special guests has just confirmed. Ken Mellons (http://kenmellons.com/bio.htm) will be playing with us tomrorow afternoon. Ken has had numerous singles in the past including "Jukebox Junkie", "Workin’ For the Weekend", "Rub-A-Dubbin" and "I Can Bring Her Back" just to name a few.

I don't have many tickets left. It's going to be a good time.

To my knowledge, this is sold out. I know that some people bought tickets without intending to go to the show. If you feel like standing, you might be able to get in at the door. Again, the number of people allowed in the room will depend on fire codes.

Thanks everyone for stepping up when you had the chance to do so.

Mike - Thank you for your community involvement. Yesterdays event was great. We need more leaders who care about our community.

I saw Mayor Leverette, Elliott Mitchell (Ward 2), candidate Rick Graham (Ward 3) were there any other elected officials or candidates in attendance?

Hey Mike,

Sorry PJ and I didn't make it. My mother and father-in-law were in town from North Carolina for a visit and wanted to spend time with our kids. I hope it was successful. Dana Coley told me you all had a great time.

first of many apologies from a mother of 7 or 8 children (not sure) that you cannot attend a function....please for the sake of your beautiful babies, stay home and not even kid yourself that you can be the type of represntatvie for your ward that this rapidly growing city needs and deserves. The city needs commitment but your children need much, much more than you will be able to spare if you are unfortunate enough to win this election.

Thank you for your kind words. It was a small event. Many people bought tickets knowing they wouldn't be able to make it. It's this type of generosity that makes Spring Hill great and what the rest of the world could desperately use more of.

We raised roughly $1200 for the Home. The people that did attend had a great time. The artists that showed had a great time and have all said they want to be a part of the next one.

Tamara - No problem. It's completely understandable.

Elliot and Rick were the only candidates at the event. Tamara did buy tickets. Those are the only candidates who supported the community with actions rather than words when the chance was made available. The Mayor was kind enough to say a few words to open the show. He took some time off of work to do that which was very generous.

Thank you very very much to all those who bought tickets or showed up. Your generosity is truly heart-warming.

I am as available as any man with children running for this seat and I am a voice for the thousands of women raising children and spending money in this city who would be overjoyed if I win.

Anonymous 23:33 I feel sorry for you if you do not have the joy of extended family who want to spend time with you. I am a woman who is richly blessed and strongly supported by my family and especially my children (of whom 3 are teenagers and only one is nearly a two year old "baby") and are actively and joyfully involved in my campaign. It is an awesome thing to be supported and encouraged by your husband and children. I believe their opinion far outweighs your anonymous one. If you would like to dialogue with me about this further please email me at tamra@tamramezera.com

I did not know that a strong sense of family values was a hindrance to public service. The only people that would fit your definition of what the city needs would be a full time city counsel and full time mayor. That would require a change in our form of government because last time I checked most of the Boma have jobs, families, and outside interests other than city hall.

Tammy

Win or lose, agree or disagree I respect your desire to give of yourself. I can imagine the potential sacrifices that your family would have to make and you are lucky to have one that will. As for extended family, more power to you, I wish I had lived closer to my extended family.

Thank you, old fire fighter. As usual, you are and gentleman and an asset to our community.

Last night was a joke. Other than Cindy Williams, Pat Larson and Lisa Beard the only other people there were candidates and their supporters (including me). I should have been going door to door instead.

ATTENTION SPRING HILL BUSINESS COMMUNITY!

The Greater Spring Hill Area Chamber of Commerce is a sham. It is clear that they do not have the support that the Community News section of the Informer would leave you to believe.

BTW Sharron, if you want to talk about your opponent so negatively, you might want to do it in a more private discussion. LOL

Anonymous said...

The meeting held last night was a setup, but everyone knew that going in and so they spoke accordingly. There is another event which has been conveniently not been listed. The other Chamber of Commerce will be having a luncheon at the UAW hall tomorrow the 22nd at 11:30. This one you might want to go to.

Anonymous said...

I'm curious, who was Sharon bashing?

Anonymous said...

How can you claim that the meeting was a setup? Each candidate was given equal opportunity to introduce themselves and to discuss any thing they wanted in regard to their campaign. There were no loaded questions asked of any candidate. If you were so disappointed with the turn out, why did you and the candidates you support not pack the house. Every citizen in the community was invited.

The members of the Greater Spring Hill Area Chamber were disappointed in the turn out also. But just because there may have been a low turnout does not make it a setup.

We have one of the finest forms of representation in the world. We have the right to listen to all candidates and vote for the ones we believe best represents our beliefs. It is a shame anytime an individual wants to discredit any organization for trying to host an event in which an opportunity was given each candidate to inform the public of his or her efforts.

I agree.

You have to also admit that when the event is advertised in the paper by one of the organizers as 'Candidates will have 5 minutes each to let you know how long they have lived in Spring Hill and their occupation', skepticism probably turned away a majority of those who would consider going.

It did me.
