Spring Break

Even though there have not been posts for the last month, I have still been paying attention. Thanks for hanging around.
Howdy everyone. For those that do not know, I have personally had a fairly involved last month or two with a new baby and some hospital issues, but this site will be back up and humming in the next day or two. Even though there have not been posts for the last month, I have still been paying attention. Thanks for hanging around.

This little "spring break" has allowed the newly elected aldermen to get their feet wet without much negative discussion. I am sure that will probably change in a few hours because there are a few things happening that leave me scratching my head. Much more to come this afternoon.

Hey Gorilla, have you heard the buzz about the Theme park ?

whats up is this site dead ?

we are still waiting and it's been almost a week now.
still tapping my fingers...

Yeah-I have heard some buzz about the theme park too. I heard it is going to be a park that celebrates southern heritage. Sounds interesting and controversial to me.

Anonymous said...

How is that a Southern themed park is controversial? Since you obviously slept through US history class there is more to the South than just slavery and Rebel flags.

im not the original poster.. but my guess would be for the folks who live in that area and
there is concern over the road projects that have been published for that area as well .
One has to wonder how are they going to get the people to this Theme park.. there's got to be roads/exits.
we live about 5 North on Kedron road and have very mixed emotions.
We moved to Spring Hill for the peace and quiet.. Not a three ring circus.
With all this planning people are also concerned for their property and land.
The newspapers have already published rough drafts of road projects for this area that are still being decided.
I will tell you some of these projected roads run right smack on top of people's homes.
there's allot of reason for concern.

Thank you 16:55. Sounds like 16:02 might have some issues. I might not fly the stars and bars in my front yard, but I understand the true meaning of it.

I have friends who live in the area where they are talking about putting this theme park. They moved out to live on land and enjoy the peace and quit. Sure, there is always going to be development, but who would think they would have a theme park in thier back yard?

Anonymous said...

I too live off of Kedron Road. I am interested to see how all of this will pan out. It was bad enough to open the mailbox and get a newspaper showing a proposed road going right through our property. Both the road improvement projects and the theme park have been a great deal of concern for many members of our family who live in the area. We bought our property with the intend of having peace and quiet, not a road running through our front door and a theme park 2 miles down the road.

$$$$$$$----I believe the that is all some are seeing these days...Bars open until 3, Theme park proposals, Storage facilities on every corner, Dollar General in people's backyards.....All I have to say is "FOR SALE"

The Florida effect is beginning to occur. Fortunately, a couple of our newly elected Aldermen see the problem and are working to put some common sense into the middle of all of this. Let's just hope they can get some of the veteran Aldermen to see things their way.

Until then, we must be proactive as residents and make our voices heard. If new business in your backyard bothers you, do what I am going to do... not patronize those businesses and call the Police Department and Code Enforcement every single time the business violates any ordinance. Call your elected officials and make sure that they know how you feel, and that another election is not too far away. The citizens replaced several Alderman this election and we can do it again in 2009.

ron, idots like you is what ties up the police

I have to agree that the police should be focused on real crimes instead of being burdened with petty complaints.

Petty complaints? If they are so petty - then we need to remove them from the books. If they are such useless regulations that there is no need to enforce them, then we need to repeal them.

Some of you need to drop the Ron-hate and use some common sense.

If we have laws on the books - then we need to enforce them. If we don't need to enforce them, then let's get them off the books - plain and simple.

just my 2 cents. I learned early on in my carreer that you can not judge the reason someone calls for assistance as being petty. It does not matter what anyone else thinks if it was important enough for the person to call than as a public servent you have a duty to take it seriously. you cannot get on Ron for using the services the city provides. That is his right.

ole firefighter,
are you telling me that in your career you have not been to petty calls that someone else could have taken care of, ie pet rescue. You and I have agreed a lot on here but not this one. I still stand by what I said. You do not need to call the police to do codes job. Thats all I am saying.

Anonymous said...

of course I go on calls that others could have taken care of. During my carreer hundreds if not thousands. Many times the only thing I do is show people that their concerns are taken seriously and then educate them on how do deal with a situation if it comes up again. When you start in police or fire you learn fast that if someone does not know who else to call they call you. It is just part of the job. If I go and make them feel that they are waisting my time or I think the call was petty then I am not doing my job, even if I think it was. My 2 cents was more in response to the idot comment. That is what sites like this should be used for-to educate people on whom to call for different problems so they do not call police or fire.

I am glad to see that the election is over, but the name calling is not.

In my career, I responded to many calls for service which you describe as "petty" but they were violations of the law and were handled with the same level of professionalism as higher priority calls.

To Anonymous who stated "You do not need to call the police to do codes job." I will be more than willing to call Codes during their regular business hours, but unless Mr. York decides to hire enough Code Officers to work 24/7, the Police Department will recieve the non-business hours calls, as they are charged with enforcing state law and city code (think barking dog at 1 a.m., it is a Code issue, but no Code Officers are on duty). Or maybe we can convince the car wash to limit their hours of operation to times when Beau or his new partner are working so as not to inconvenience the Police Department with Code violations... Hey I can dream can't I?

Please understand that I will not call unless I am sure that the law is being broken. I even own my own noise meter which I am certified/trained on, which will help me ensure that I am not calling for no reason. At the same time, I bought a home with the desire and intention to be able to enjoy it peacefully, and due to the action or inaction of the previous BOMA, that peace is now in jeopardy. If the carwash and other businesses had been there first, then I would be silent on this issue (kind of like "If you don't like the smell, don't move next to the dump"), but this action was taken after I moved in, and now I am forced to suffer with it, therefore I intend to exercise my rights as a citizen of Spring Hill and utilize the services that the city provides to ensure that my rights as a resident are not put second after the free ride that the developers of this city have been given for so long.

Finally, if I wanted to address petty issues, I would advise anonymous that if we want to call eachother names, it is spelled i-d-i-o-t-s not i-d-o-t-s, but what would be the point?

NIMBY is exactly what our new aldermen are saying.

Look at the recent issues:
No Bamboo (NIMBY in Campbel's Station)
No Car-wash (NIMBY in Haynes Crossing)
No Parking in the street (NIMBY in Haynes Crossing)
Change the zip-code (NIMBY in Campbel's Station)

Items on the horizon:
Noise ordinance (NIMBY in Campbel's Station)
No More Drive Throughs (NIMBY in Campbel's Station)
Moratorium on Growth (NIMBY on Port Royal Road)

All I have to say is, WTF and SITYS (See, I Told Ya So).

BTW Ron, you and your new BFFs need to be educated about the zoning of the Dollar General. When y'all moved in to your new homesteads in Haynes Crossing, the properties there were all zoned INDUSTRIAL, including an INDUSTRIAL PARK that was under construction.

As for Dinwiddie and his effort to NIMBY the heck out of the carwash and Dollar General, if it wasn't NIMBY, you would have given a care to Tanyard Springs, Wyngate, Wade's Grove, Williams Park, Hunters Point and the gazillion other commercial zonings adjacent to residential before you went after the one that you can spit on from your back door. Way to embarrass us buddy.

SITYS,
If you will remember, I ran on the not in anyones back yard platform and fully opposed placing commercial and residential property together. When I purchased my home, there was a house and a barn where a carwash will now sit. This property is now zoned B-4 which the previous BOMA so graciously approved so that their BFF developers could build anything they wanted with no restrictions of any kind.

If you will be kind enough to read my post again, my comment about not being vocal on this issue was not if this was done in somebody else's backyard, but if it had already been there when I moved in, then I would have no right to complain.

As far as your NIMBY comments, about Haynes Crossing and Campbells Station, those are the developments currently being affected by POOR COMMERCIAL PLANNING & ZONING. I fully believe that my BFF's as you like to refer to them are looking at the big picture and using these properties as examples of problems and reasons to implement stricter ordinances so that these problems do not pop up in others back yards where these zoning problems currently exist.

SITYS,

How convenient for you to skip the other 70% of items in the monthly BOMA agenda.

Why are you so hurt? Do you own a B4 lot in Spring Hill?

Anonymous said...

SITYS, you really do sound bitter. Not to mention the fact most of your points are wrong. Which probably makes you even more bitter. Must be a nice life...
