DuBois and Ketron announce movement on I-65 construction

NASHVILLE – Representative Tom DuBois (R-Columbia) and Senator Bill Ketron (R-Murfreesboro) announced this week that two vital steps are moving forward on the much-needed improvements being made to widen Interstate 65 between the Goose Creek Interchange and S.R. 840.

“These improvements have been needed for quite some time now, particularly for Maury County residents commuting to Williamson and Davidson Counties everyday,” said DuBois. “Senator Ketron and I are pleased to announce that the Tennessee Department of Transportation will begin this work soon.”

“I am very excited to see the beginning of progress of the widening of I-65 in southern Williamson County. Traffic is at the crisis point and it is important we get started on a solution as soon as possible,” added Senator Ketron (R-Murfreesboro).

The first two vital steps in the four-step process, according to DuBois, will be funded and undertaken this fiscal year. First will be the engineering and design to widen Interstate 65 and the Goose Creek overpass interchange. Senator Bill Ketron noted that this first step will be followed by environmental studies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

The final two steps will be the purchase of a right-of-way and the actual building. DuBois stressed his wish that these two steps move as quickly as possible before this traffic problem became worse. “This is a unique situation due to the tremendous growth we are experiencing in Southern Middle Tennessee, and I am pleased that TDOT also sees the importance of the project,” he said.

Both of the aforementioned State Legislators will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting at Heritage Elementary School this Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. All area residents are invited and welcome to share their views on this roadway and any other issues.

Thank goodness. But will this also include from the Goosecreek Bypass north to Hwy 96? There will still be bottlenecks unless this section is expanded to at least three lanes in both directions.

According to yesterday's Tennessean (link), the widening will extend from 96 to 840. Two extra lanes will be added in each direction. The project is expected to last a minimum of 3 years beginning next month. Let's hope it gets done on or before schedule. Now, if we can an additional entrance/exit, we'll have it made. Keep hoping.

And there was much rejoicing. Only down side is the traffic is going to get worse during construction but hey i'll take it. In the long run we'll be much better off.

The Tennessean article also mentions hundreds of homes and comercial development on Goose Creek, oh joy! Got to love progress...

anonymous, I'm glad you pointed out that the widening will be all the way to 840, however my daily commute shows me that it is starting to bottleneck just south of 840 now anyway, and that will likely only get worse.

I know it's asking for a lot - but they really should have taken this project all the way down to Saturn Parkway.

I wonder how many people sat on 65N this morning.
I left my house in spring hill at 7:15am did not make it to Cool Springs until 9:00am
This has become ridiculous!
We hear so much about growth .. Yet we have no roads to support this growth. 65N is a total mess
how in the **** can you get all that traffic squeezed down to to 2 lanes! Hwy 31 is not any better.
all it takes is 1 wreck any every direction shuts down going North
Nothing is being done but talk all you see is all these subdivisions
being built no roads !!

According to the meeting held at Heritage with TDOT and others, the Federal Government controls 90% of the roadbuilding budget for the state. Yep... we're battling it out with the "Bridge to Nowhere" and other pork projects. If you want to fuss... start with your Senators and Congressmen. I suggest you ask them to simply give us our money back and let us decide how it's spent. That's what I do... Then... in the 2008 elections, vote for the ONLY man who wants to return power back to the states where it belongs. That man is Ron Paul.
