CON...Part I

I decided to take a few hours today to make a trip downtown to learn about the Certificate of Need process. It is very interesting to look through prior CON's and all of the letters of support for previous medical projects from various politicians in the area. The more I read, and the more I look into the facts presented in previous documents, the more I find arguments against THIS hospital in Spring Hill absurd. I copied enough documents today to give everyone an education about the "NEEDS" of the City of Spring Hill for quite some time, from the keyboards of Maury and Williamson County. We will start off the discussion with a particular letter that I find interesting.

I will try to post another piece of the puzzle each morning and evening until we can have a nice little discussion about the true "NEED" in this city.

Read it for yourselves and enjoy.

Now...

"Residents of this rapidly growing area travel to Franklin or Columbia for diagnostic services. This is no longer acceptable as the new residents are accustomed to having accessible healthcare in the communities from which they are relocating. Diagnostic services would be a tremendous benefit to the approximately 19,000 residents in Spring Hill."

Mr. Bailey, do I need to point out what you stated in regard to this letter? I would be happy to point out the obvious in this statement or can you figure it out on your own.

MUCH MORE TO COME TOMORROW MORNING!

If anyone has questions....ask! I am sure that the community assembled on this site can provide you the most accurate information around, especially considering that we now have many CON's in our hands at this time, including the one being presented in July.

I don't get it. Other than identifying the need for health care close to home, what did he say?

Anonymous said...

... the fact that he says Spring Hill needs the diagnostic services back in 2005, but they are saying that it would be a duplication of services now if a DIFFERENT hospital would come in to provide what they were requesting roughly a year ago..

"This (traveling to Columbia and Franklin for health care) is no longer acceptable as the new residents are accustomed to having accessible healthcare in the communities from which they are relocating."

Sounds like Mayor Bailey has made a pretty good case for a hospital right here in Spring Hill.

I am thinking of taking his letter, copying it word for word, then edit out DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES and replace with the word HOSPITAL, then ask him if he would sign it. LOL

As always, good stuff Gorilla!

Looks like Jim Bailey has got his hand stuck in the cookie jar!

So you finally took my advice. Find anything substantial? How about a Cath Lab in the TriStar CON?

What good service a cath lab in Maury Regional provides for Spring Hill, if it will take 1 hour for a patient to reach the hospital???
AT least with a hospital here in Spring Hill the patient can be stabilized and then transported to another facility for further treatment. Please try to look for another excuse to be against a hospital here. Remember that not all hospitals have a cath lab, and not all patients that go to the ER are going to be cardiac patients. We have a lot of young families with kids in this city, and they will gladly welcome a hospital that is within minutes from home.

Williamson AM article: Maury officials sought health-care facility last year
Letter in support of diagnostic center contradicts current stand.

Asked about construction of a Spring Hill hospital, Bailey said a second hospital in Maury County would hurt Maury Regional. The proposed TriStar hospital would be located on the Maury County side of Spring Hill, which is split between Williamson and Maury counties.

"It wouldn't matter if a hospital was going into Culleoka or Santa Fe, it will hurt Maury Regional," he said. "I'm trying to look out for what's good for the greater number of people in Maury County."
